Another instalment on my occasional series on “what cars do people buy in various European countries?”

Today we visit the land of pasta, popes and prosciutto. Yes, Italy. So what have they been buying this year? Are Fiats everywhere? Yes they are.

Leading the way we have the Fiat Panda, followed by:

Lancia Ypsilon

Fiat Punto (does anyone else buy these?)

Ford Fiesta (now there’s a surprise)

Golf

Fiat 500L

Fiat 500X

Toyota Yaris

Opel Corsa

Peugeot 208

In terms of makers we have Fiat in the lead followed (well behind) by Ford, VW, Opel and Peugeot.

At the other end of the scale, Subaru manage 0.2% (Subaru cannot into Europe except Switzerland) while Lamborghini just kept ahead of Great Wall and were well behind Mahindra.

Have an Italian bestseller and while doing so ponder on the fact that “statistics” is singular in Italian.

I had no idea people actually bought the Ypsilon, I thought it was just a placeholder until they finally kill off Lancia...so are there many in on the roads in Italy I’m guessing?

Kinja'd!!!

It’s not a bad looker, especially from behind...

The Ypsilon, she is everywhere. Not as everywhere as the Mk1 Panda though.

Isn’t the Ypsilon the sole Lancia still being sold today? Just let Lancia die, FCA. Let it be remembered as one of the greats from the days of Group B and Group C, proudly wearing the Martini livery.

(Ok, I know I’m posting a Group 5 Beta Montecarlo Turbo, but look at it! I mean come on!)
